user interface - Projects to improve keyboard input? -


i've been bothered question while now: projects there out there improving keyboard-based input? i've been searching , can barely find anything. effort can think of confront keyboard usability has been touch screen keyboards on mobile devices, great. i'm typing on iphone right since didn't bring computer on vacation, , mother, who's been goofy old woman types 1 finger, got android phone swipe-typing , loves it. love how on iphone, can hold down character access diacritical marks , similar characters. it's great.

meanwhile, desktop space hasn't seen significant improvements in forever. macos handles special characters more gracefully windows (which preposterously expects users type ascii code type names zoë , renée). i've tried using us-international layout, thankfully makes easier type è , ß , € among others, breaks hard standard keyboard paradigm use when have type lots of special characters (us-international uses command sequences instead of modifier keys accents, changes rhythm of typing).

i'm not interested in learning alternate layouts. i've heard encouraging anecdotes dvorak, doesn't solve better part of typing woes, , frankly it's effort put unproven standard. but, there little things indeed frustrating, location of brackets , parentheses, incredibly frustrating use poor typist me trying learn python.

anyway, best thing i've seen end have been applications add autocomplete , keyboard macros system, helpful, relatively small addition. spellcheck has traditionally been pretty disgraceful, , don't know of effort improve it.

so anyway, there projects out there improving keyboard input? intrigued projects entirely new keyboard designs if aim solve use, instead of repetitive strain (which isn't problem me because type much). there?

  1. bind shortcut key change keyboard layout settings, use windows key , spacebar. can use german when typing in german, , switch english when done. easy in ubuntu, on windows might possible autohotkey - http://www.autohotkey.com/

  2. text expanders - these programs allow define sequence such !ef - , automatically insert text have defined sequence. if had email footer attached !ef have been inserted above. http://www.lifehacker.com have articles on subject

i looking create highchart multi-colored line. if goes down under value, become red, , when comes on value, become green . here picture example: or maybe highcharts have other charts models differentiate high or low level color? you can achieve coloring using lineargradient coloring: color: { lineargradient: { x1: 0, x2: 0, y1: 0, y2: 1 }, stops: [ [0, 'red'], [0.25, 'yellow'], [0.50, 'green'], [0.75, 'yellow'], [1, 'red'] ] } here 0 in stops relates minimum value of series , 1 maximum value, , in between percentages between values. if find percentages according values prior creating chart use correct stops values make relate specific values in data (at least approximately). see this jsfiddle example .
